Carmelo Di Girolamo
Professor at the National Academy of Dance (Rome)

Carmelo Di Girolamo is a professor at the National Academy of Dance in Rome. He graduated cum laude in both Piano and Chamber Music from the G. Braga Higher Institute of Musical Studies, and also earned a diploma in Score Reading from the Conservatory of Pescara.

He continued his musical education across Europe, attending advanced masterclasses that led him to receive numerous awards and honors in international competitions and events — among them, the Chopin Competition in Bacau, the Hochschule Academy in Aachen (Germany), and the Violin & Friends Music International in Malta.

His international collaborations extend from Europe to the United States, working with record labels, singers, producers, and organizations such as the Royal Academy of Dance, Youth America Grand Prix, International Talent Award, UNESCO, and RAI.

In 2019, he released his solo piano album Round at Spazio Nour, in collaboration with Piano City Milano.

For classical dance, he has recorded two albums — Percezioni in movimento and The Music for Ballet Vol. 1 — featuring original music distributed by Danzashop. He has worked with many of the most distinguished directors and professors from leading international academies.

In 2021, he won first prizes in several international competitions:

Canadian International Music Competition, with his piece Breathe, Right Now, as both composer and pop pianist;

Quebec Music Competition, with Breathe, Right Now and Deeper;

North America Virtuoso Competition, with Deeper and Reaction.

His most recent recordings have been released by STORM and CAMINO Records (Brooklyn, New York). In 2023, he composed the soundtrack for the contemporary dance performance Vultures, choreographed and directed by L. Salgarollo. He also appeared on RAI as composer for M. Piazza’s choreography during the event Giovani e Memoria.

“A Tribute To” is one of the most important projects he’s ever worked on. Together with choreographer Lucia Salgarollo and the dance ensemble, he brings to the stage a piano concert dedicated to Philip Glass and Ryuichi Sakamoto, combined with contemporary dance performances.

For over fifteen years, he has been deeply engaged in teaching at academies and professional schools, leading masterclasses and advanced training workshops.
